Joan Salvato Wulff Film

The First Lady of Fly Fishing

Joan Salvato Wulff began her many careers when she was only 12-years-old by teaching dance. Then, at 17, she became a full partner in a dance studio. During the 1940s and 50s, while teaching, Joan also traveled across the U.S. and Europe competing in fly casting tournaments, winning many of them.

She has authored important books, written columns and starred in influential teaching videos. Her decency, innovations in teaching methods and desire to help everyone endears her to people everywhere.

During the 1950s and 60s, Joan demonstrated casting at Sportsman Shows around the U.S.

Show Emcee, and former western film star Monte Blue, asked Joan that while demonstrating her astounding talents, she wear an evening gown, high heels and jewelry. This wowed audiences and proved to be very popular at each performance.

Joan has written four books and appears in a number of videos. The DVD shown here is the most successful instructional casting film ever produced, selling more than 50,000 copies.

Joan always demonstrated casting wherever she went. Here she’s at a Sportsman event in Philadelphia in the early 70s.
